Dmitri Shostakovich and 1-5-6-5: The History of a Motive 1950-1967
Since the 10th Symphony, Dmitri Shostakovich signed select compositions with his signature's musical acronym D-Es-C-H (the notes D, E , C, B) in plain sight. However my recent research indicates a second "confessional" motive he developed independently of the D-Es-C-H motive—one he may have never intended anyone to hear. Undergraduate thesis. 129 pages.
